Arizona charter schools have a history of being more agile than other public schools. As the nation embarks on an ambitious plan to move all public schoolchildren onto a Common Core curriculum, Arizona charter teachers have the opportunity to share what they have learned about adopting new curricula and adapting to new systems.
VIVA (Voice Ideas Vision Action) Teachers is your chance to share your experience and have an impact on public policy around the implementation of the Common Core. Superintendent John Huppenthal and State Board President Jaime Molera are anxious to hear what you have to say.

VIVA is a nonprofit whose goal is to raise the level of teachers' voices in education policy. This online conversation is being conducted by VIVA Teachers in partnership with the Arizona Charter Schools Association. This conversation is open only to Arizona charter school teachers, content area specialists, guidance counselors and other instructional professionals who have direct contact with students. Welcome to the VIVA Arizona Charter Teachers Idea Exchange.
I am Cindy Richards and I will be your moderator. Over the next few weeks, we are asking you and other Arizona charter school classroom professionals to share your thoughts about the implementation of the Common Core curriculum and what supports teachers need to ensure the Common Core leads to higher student achievement.
How the VIVA Teachers Idea Exchange Works
STEP 1:
Charter teachers from across Arizona share their ideas about how to ensure the Common Core curriculum leads to higher student achievement.
STEP 2:
Thought leaders from the conversation are invited to join a Writing Collaborative that will summarize the ideas and distill them into actionable recommendations that will be delivered in person to Superintendent John Huppenthal and State Board of Education President Jaime Molera.
Our Question
Arizona charter schools have more experience and agility in adopting change than other Arizona public schools. By the 2013-2014 school year, all Arizona classrooms will move to Common Core standards. As a charter teacher, what are you doing in your classroom and school to prepare for this transition? What more needs to be done on a classroom, school, and state level to ensure that the new Common Core Standards lead to higher student achievement?
